3.77   सात्विकाः राजसाः तामसाः वृत्तयः नाहं न मम धर्माः इति कथं ज्ञेयम्

दृष्टान्तः –कस्मिंश्चित् भवने आसीनस्य राज्ञः विनोदाय कलावित् कलां निर्माति। यस्योदरात् त्रिविधजलधारा प्रवहति। एषु प्रवाहेषु अनन्तधाराः प्रवहन्ति। यदा यदुदरं पुनर्बद्धं तदा धारात्रयं निरुद्धं सत् केवलं राजा आसीनो वर्तते।

दार्ष्टान्तः – स्थूलशरीररूपभवने कूटस्थरूपी परमात्मा राजा स्थितः। तद्विनोदार्थं माया कलावित् अन्तःकरणरूपफलं निर्माति। जाग्रत्स्वप्नरूपप्रारब्धोदरस्फोटनात् गुणत्रयरूपप्राहधारा निःसरति। एषु त्रिषु धारासु अगणनीयवृत्तयः प्रभवन्ति। सुषुप्तौ प्रारब्धकर्मरूपफलोदरबन्धे सति वृत्तीनां भावाभावयोः प्रकाशकः आनन्दरूपः केवलः परमात्मरूपः राजा स्थितः। सोऽहम्। एवं सात्विकाः राजसाः वृत्तयः नाहं, न ताः मम। इमाः अन्तःकरणस्य। अहं तासां द्रष्टा घटद्रष्टृवत् तद्विलक्षणः। इति ज्ञेयम्।

how do I know that I am not the vr̥ttis

In a building, a king was seated, and an artist was performing. He created a fruit from whose belly there were three streams of water. In each of these, there were an infinite number of sub-streams. When the opening was closed, all three streams ceased and only the king remained.

In the sthūla śarīra building, the kūṭastha in the form of a king was seated. For his enjoyment, māyā in the form of an artisan created the intellect-fruit. From prārabdha in the form of jāgrat and svapna, the abdomen opened and three streams of guṇas flowed out. In them, an infinite number of vr̥tti streams arose. In suṣupti, when the prārabdha-fruit opening is closed, the paramātama king also shines as happiness. I am him. In this way, I am not the sātvika or rājasika vr̥ttis, nor are they mine. They belong to the mind. I am their seer, and see them like I see a pot. Thus am I different from them.
