“नाहं नाम, न नाम मम” इति कथं ज्ञेयम्
जन्मनः पूर्वं नाम्नः अभावः। जन्मनः अनन्तरं नाम कल्पितम्। शरीरस्य प्रत्यङ्गविचारे कृते न क्वापि नाम लभ्यते। अतः नाहं नाम। न नाम मम। नाम स्थूलदेहे कल्पितः। अहं नाम्नो द्रष्टा घटद्रष्टृवत् तद्विलिक्षणः। एवं नाहं नाम, न नाम मम इति ज्ञेयम्।
how do I know that I am not a name, and it is not mine
The name did not exist before creation, and is superimposed after creation. The name isn’t found in any part of the body. Thus, I am not the name, nor is it mine. It is superimposed on the gross body. I see the name, as I see a pot, and am different from it. Thus, it should be known that I am not name, and name is not mine.
