प्राणस्य स्थानं हॄदयं, प्रतिदिनं २१६०० श्वासोच्छ्वासाः क्रियाः। अपानस्य स्थानं पायुः, क्रिया मलमूत्रोत्सर्जनम्। समानस्य स्थानं नाभिः, उद्यानपालः कूपजलेन उद्यानसेचनवत् पक्वभोजनरसं नाडीद्वारा सर्वशरीरव्याप्तिः क्रिया। उदानस्य स्थानं कण्ठः, क्रिया भुक्तान्नपीतजलयोः विभागीकरणं, तथा स्वप्ने विक्षेपः। व्यानस्य स्थानं सर्वाङ्गं, क्रिया सर्वेषां अङ्गानां सन्धीनां प्रेरणम्।
What are the locations and functions of the five prāṇas
The location of the prāṇa is the heart, and it’s function is 21,600 breaths per day. The location of the apāna is the anus, and it’s function is the discard stool and urine. The location of the samāna is the navel, and it’s function is to distribute the digested juices through the nāḍīs, just as a gardener distributes well-water to all parts of the garden. The location of the udāna is the throat, and it’s function to the separate digested food and drunk water, and to project what is seen in a dream. The location of the vyāna is the entire body, and it’s function is to impel all joints of the body.
