पञ्चीकरणम्
एतेषां पञ्चतत्त्वानां तमोगुणप्रधानानां पञ्चीकरणेन पञ्चमहाभूतानि भवन्ति।
पञ्चीकरणं किम्। एतेषु भूतेष्वेकमेकं भूतं द्विधा समं विभज्य, एकमेकमर्धं तूष्णीं व्यवस्थाप्य, अपरमपरमर्धं चतुर्धा समं विभज्य, स्वार्धभिन्नेष्वर्धेषु स्वभागचतुष्टयसंयोजनं पञ्चीकरणं भवति।
एतेभ्यः पञ्चीकृतपञ्चमहाभूतेभ्यश्चतुर्विधस्थूलशरीरं, ब्रह्माण्डं, ब्रह्माण्डमध्ये च चतुर्दशभुवनानि सम्भूतानि।

From pañcīkaraṇa of the tamo guṇa portion of the five tattvas, the five mahābhūtas arise.
What is pañcīkaraṇa?
- Each of the bhūtas is split into two equal halves
- One half (1/2) is left as-is. The other half is split into four equal parts (1/8th).
- Each of the 1/8 parts combines with a half which is different from itself
From this pañcīkaraṇa, the five mahābhūtas arise. From them are produced the five kinds of bodies and brahmāṇḍa. Within the brahmāṇḍa, the 14 worlds arise.
