6.1:
पञ्चकोशातीत आत्मा
पञ्चकोशातीत आत्मा। एतत्कोशपञ्चकं मदीयं शरीरं मदीयाः प्राणाः मदीयं मनश्च मदीया बुद्धिर्मदीयं अज्ञानमिति मदीयत्वेनैव ज्ञायते। यद्यथा मदीयत्वेन ज्ञातं कटककुण्डलगृहादिकं स्वस्माद्भिन्नं, तथा पञ्चकोशादिकं मदीयत्वेन ज्ञातमात्मा न भवति॥
ātma is beyond the kośas
The ātma is beyond the five kośas.
We say – “my śarīra”, “my prāṇas”, “my manas”, “my buddhi”, and “my ajñāna”. All of these are characterized by my-ness.
Just as bracelets, necklaces and houses are “mine”, and are different from “me”; in the same way the five kośas are mine and are not my ātma.
