nirguṇa upāsanā cakra
The nirguṇa upāsanā cakra is from the hindi edition of the vicāra sāgara.


The main content of this cakra links the following:
- 3 upādhis (kāraṇa deha, sūkṣma deha, sthūla deha) - U1, U2, U3
- 2 dr̥ṣṭis (samaṣṭi, vyaṣṭi) - D1, D2
- 3 avasthās (jāgrat, svapna, suṣupti) - J1, J2, J3
mahāvākyas (V)
On the outside of the largest circle, are the 4 mahāvākyas starting clockwise from the top-right.
- V1: r̥g veda – prajñānam brahma
- V2: yajur veda – ahaṁ brahma asmi
- V3: sāma veda – tat tvam asi
- V4: atharva veda – ayam ātmā brahma
V5: aikya through arthāpatti (sr̥ṣṭi-nindā) – neha nānāsti
3 upādhis (U)
Just inside the the largest circle, starting clockwise from the top-left.
- U1: 1 upādhi – ajñānam
- U2: 2 upādhis – ajñānam, sūkṣma śarīra
- U3: 3 upādhis – ajñānam, sūkṣma śarīra, sthūla śarīra
2 dr̥ṣṭis (D)
Inside the largest circle are two 3-petalled clovers.
- D1: samṣṭi (for īśvara)
- D2: vyaṣṭi (for jīva)
3 abhimānas (A)
Inside the clovers, we have the abhimāna samjñās
- for īśvara, they are named: īśvara, hiraṇyagarbha and virāṭ
- for jīva, they are named prājña, taijasa and viśva
In the diagram, they alternate between īśvara (samaṣṭi) and jīva (vyaṣṭi)
- A1: īśvara has samaṣṭi ajñāna upādhi abhimāna
- A2: prājña has vyaṣṭi ajñāna upādhi abhimāna
- A3: hiraṇyagarbha has samaṣṭi sūkṣma upādhi abhimāna
- A4: taijasa has vyaṣṭi sūkṣma upādhi abhimāna
- A5: virāṭ has samaṣṭi sthūla upādhi abhimāna
- A6: viśva has vyaṣṭi sthūla upādhi abhimāna
3 avasthās (J)
In the intersection between the two 3-petalled clovers are the 3 avasthās
- J1: suṣupti is the avasthā with 1 upādhi, for īśvara & prājña
- J2: svapna is the avasthā with 2 upādhis, for hiraṇyagarbha and taijasa
- J3: jāgrat is the avasthā with 3 upādhis, for virāṭ and viśva
bhedas are kalpita
All of these bhedas are kalpita, due to upādhis. This is also shown thrice in the intersections between the two 2-petalled clovers.
om-kāra (AUM)
Inside the inner circle, but outside the triangles, the thee parts of the om-kāra are shown, and are linked to the appropriate avasthās.
- A: a-kāra represents jāgrat avasthā
- U: u-kāra represents svapna avasthā
- M: m-kāra represents suṣupti avasthā
māyā
māyā is in the intersecting inner triangles, and is of two types:
- The white triange is śuddha sattva pradhāna, resulting in samaṣṭi
- The dark triange is malina sattva pradhāna, resulting in vyaṣṭi
bindu
Inside, untouched by māyā is the om-kāra. It also has other names:
- śuddha brahma (adhiṣṭhāna of īśvara and jīva)
- a-mātra (adhiṣṭhāna of a-kāra, u-kāra, m-kāra)
- turīya (adhiṣṭhāna of jāgrat, svapna, suṣupti)
